Business continuity management for Indonesian contractors Available to Purchase

In conducting business activities in an organisation, there are times when unforeseen situations may occur, such as crises. A crisis may give rise to various consequences to an organisation, and may disrupt the business process. In order to overcome a crisis and to continue business as usual, a firm must first have systematic approaches in place. One of the concepts that can be implemented is business continuity management, which is not only focusing on overcoming crises but also considering how the business may be sustained. The objective of this study was to elucidate the need for business continuity management in construction services firms, particularly for Indonesian contractors. The study is based on an extensive literature review of business continuity management principles and identifying the various potential crises faced by contractors. The responses of Indonesian contractors in the context of crisis management in general and on business continuity management in particular are emphasised. From the study, it is proposed that the business continuity management concept is beneficial and required for implementation by Indonesian contractors. Due to the various crises (both natural and man-made) which had occurred, the ineffective ways of responding to crises, and the complex nature of the business, business continuity management is essential for implementation by Indonesian contractors to safeguard business continuity when disturbances and disasters do occur.
