Working Methods for Knowledge Management

Knowledge Management is a field that has been evolving over the past 60 years and we expect it to continue to develop due to its interdisciplinary nature and its applied focus. The knowledge management domain draws on theories from a variety of fields including business economics computer science communications cultural studies linguistics and semantics education and learning organizational management and sociology. However as an applied discipline it evolves through the experience of practitioners and their adaptation to the dynamics of the new environment where they operate.

As the knowledge management domain continues to gain relevance there is still a need for the corporate level executive to fully understand what knowledge management means in practice. This makes it essential for practitioners to find integrate and apply relevant practices into their management strategies. This series addresses this essential need by drawing in and critically assessing methods that have proven effective in different contexts providing a learning platform for knowledge management practitioners to ensure that both they and their functions and programs succeed in the knowledge economy.

The series is therefore designed to cover a wide range of knowledge management concepts methods and strategies that enable decision makers to understand engage in and drive organization-wide efforts to build those capabilities required to remain competitive in the knowledge economy. From designing to implementing different types of knowledge-based strategies and measuring their success the series becomes a valuable resource for decision makers contributing to the sustainable transformation of business and society.

By encouraging critical review and discussion among practitioners the series also generates important feedback for knowledge management academics and researchers. Experience applying core concepts and theories in a range of real-world scenarios creates opportunities to critically evaluate research topics and agendas methods and results.
