AB This chapter describes the cases and lives of Capitol defendants who tried to use sovereign citizen tactics in court, details about their convictions, the nature of their offenses, the demographics and, where possible, the life histories of those included in the sample, Also included is a review of the tactics each of the individuals attempted in court, the nature of those tactics, what they hoped to achieve with those tactics, and the outcomes of their attempts. The review of these cases, along with the mechanisms and tactics attempted in the courtroom, offers valuable insight into the legal strategies commonly used. It reveals the patterns and the rationale behind their approach. It also advances our understanding of how these tactics are developed, shared, disseminated, and perpetuated between the members of this group. Moreover, it provides a clearer understanding of the motivations behind the tactics, even though they are never successful in court. Exploring the tactics used by defendants may reveal the beliefs driving their persistence. This deeper explanation is crucial for those seeking to counter this movement and develop strategies to prevent the spread of sovereign citizen tactics.
