Effective professional development takes time and faculty peer coaching professional development models organize and use time efficiently. Teaching in higher education requires consistent skill and strategy development. Classroom technology and instructional methodologies advance regularly. Societal changes influence student needs and the challenges they must navigate to achieve a college degree. The foundational skills instructors utilize demand increased integration with field and societal connections, equitable instructional qualities, and well-managed inclusive classrooms. Instructional design, classroom technologies, and varied teaching modalities are empowered when instructors can observe them in a classroom setting and learn them in correlation to specific curriculum and individual teaching practices. This chapter examines how peer coaching models are designed to efficiently support instructors in the development of useful skills and strategies. The chapter introduces features of faculty peer coaching in higher education that use time efficiently and generate optimal teaching methods, use of classroom technology, and teaching strategies that lead to student achievement. The chapter provides a brief contrast between traditional training and peer coaching. It showcases how the peer coaching model facilitates confident implementation and increases participation, and engagement in meaningful feedback and provides opportunities to learn, execute, and assess teaching skills and strategies.
